Enhance and enrich our ties to Baltimore, the nation, and the world, so that Johns Hopkins becomes the exemplar of a globally engaged urban university.

Enhance and enrich our ties to Baltimore, the nation, and the world, so that Johns Hopkins becomes the exemplar of a globally engaged urban university.

Our ideas, our passion, and our energies can contribute so much to the multiple communities of which we are a part. And those communities enrich us as well. Our partnerships outside the university enhance the educational experience for our students and strengthen our scholarship and research, and give expression to our founding mission to educate scholars who will advance the societies in which they dwell.

This has been a pivotal period for the partnership between the university and Baltimore, as exemplified by the investments in East Baltimore Development Inc. and the Homewood Community Partners Initiative, and our leadership role in opening the first new public school in East Baltimore in 25 years. More broadly, the university led policy discussions on emergent national issues in areas such as gun control and the Ebola epidemic. And through the reach of the Bloomberg School of Public Health, SAIS, Jhpiego, and others, the university expanded its leadership role as innovators in global health and international affairs.
